Under National Air Quality Monitoring Programme (N.A.M.P), sponsored by CPCB, air quality monitoring in the state has been initiated by MPCB since the year, 2005. Initially, only 3 monitoring stations were set up within Aizawl district and later in the year, 2011, 8 nos. of additional stations were established with the financial assistance from CPCB. The present air quality monitoring network in the state, therefore, comprises of 11 nos. of air monitoring stations, located in 4 districts of Mizoram, as shown in the following table.

From the existing 11 nos. of air quality monitoring stations in the state, MPCB has been undertaking regular monitoring of air quality at the CPCB’s recommended frequency of 24 hrs. monitoring of twice a week for 4 nos. of air parameters namely, PM10, SPM, SO2 and NO2. Air samples collected from these stations are analysed in the Laboratory and data generated are regularly submitted to CPCB via online portal on weekly basis and AQI published through local newspapers and Televisions.
