The Central Laboratory of Mizoram Pollution Control Board, set up with the financial assistance from the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Govt. of India in the year 2005 is presently functioning in the office building of MPCB at New Secretariat Complex, Khatla, Aizawl, Mizoram. The four storey building of MPCB is having floor area of 883.3 Sq.m and the Laboratory is occupying whole of the second basement which is fully functional with water, air and biological monitoring sections. It is headed by scientist ‘B’. MPCB has no other regional laboratories other than the Central Laboratory. The Laboratory is of ‘C’ grade as per the classification of CPCB. Proposal for upgradation to ‘B’ grade, submitted to MoEF&CC is under consideration. Action has been initiated for NABL accreditation.
Biological Laboratory is functioning effectively. It has a separate set up, equipped with required facilities such as, Laminar Flow, Bacteriological incubators, Hot air oven, Autoclaves, Microscope, Colony counter etc. Presently, Bio Lab is undertaking analysis of water samples for bacteriological examinations as well as bio-monitoring of rivers using benthic microbes as indicators.
