Memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on 28th August 2002 between Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India and Environment & Forests Department, Government of Mizoram for implementation of ENVIS Scheme in Mizoram. Following the MoU, Mizoram ENVIS Node was set up on 03.06.2003 at Mizoram Pollution Control Board’s Office which is the designated Host Institute of ENVIS for the state of Mizoram. The ENVIS Node was upgraded to Centre in the year, 2005 which is now known as ENVIS Hub as re-designated by the Ministry in the year 2017.
The Host Institute supports and coordinates the management and functioning of the ENVIS Hub and provides physical infrastructures such as, office space and basic amenities. Presently, Dr Lalramghaki Pachuau, Scientist ‘B’, MPCB is taking charge of the Programme Co-ordinator. The Hub is financially supported by the Ministry with grant-in-aid released under the scheme on annual basis. Presently, the Hub has 4 nos. of staff engaged on contractual basis:
i) Programme Officer
ii) Information Officer
iii) I.T. Officer
iv) Data Entry Operator.
The subject area assigned to the Mizoram ENVIS Hub is “ State of Environment and related issues”. As such, the Hub has been assigned the task of collection and dissemination of environmental information related activities on an annual basis covering database development that include descriptive information and numerical data, creating information products, maintaining and upgrading ENVIS website on NIC platform, and disseminating stored information through newsletters, reports, reprints, special thematic publications, news digests, abstracting services etc. and maintaining Query-Answer Service, etc.
